An Ode to the Noble Corn Dog

There comes a moment in every person’s life when they meet a corn dog and realize they’ve found love. Not the complicated, heart-fluttering, candlelit kind of love—but the golden, crispy, dipped-in-mustard kind. It’s the sort of affection that doesn’t demand flowers or late-night phone calls, only the knowledge of where to find the corn dog dealer that delivers the best.

We went on the quest to find the best in Austin and this is our list. To be clear-Not All Corn dogs Are Created Equally! With this, our list is admittedly 100% unscientific and 100% our opinion. But, we think it’s a good list and are blissfully unapologetic if you feel otherwise.

#1 – Frazier’s long and low. This place is not for the faint of heart. They proudly promote “No Children Allowed, No Matter What Their Age.”

#2- The Better Half. Great place to hang out during a workday or a weekend. You can only get corn dogs here though on Tuesday Happy hour.

#3-Dog Haus Biergarten. This Lake Travis place was a bit of a surprise but the wurst dogs are the best! Order a custom with choice sausages to customize your corndog!

#4-Vic & Als. This place rocks cajun food! Great food, fabulous staff, unique place that is affordable! Check ’em out!

#5-Texas Oh K-Dog. There are a few places around that feature a new Korean Style corn dog and this is one that is highly rated.  We had to include it because these places are so on trend particularly with the younger set! Not your everyday corn dog but an interesting twist!

So here’s to the corn dog, the unsung hero of handheld cuisine. May we never underestimate the happiness that can be found in a golden crust, a perfectly cooked dog, and the delightful freedom of eating with one hand while waving to life with the other.
